News article for the Seniors Section
After a thorough financial review, several cups of tea, and one or two moments of staring blankly at the calculator hoping the numbers would magically improve, the Seniors Committee has agreed that the competition entry fee will be increasing to £3.50 per competition.
This bold and visionary move brings us in line with the Club competitions, keeps the Seniors Section solvent, and ensures we can continue to fund the important things in life — like prizes, bacon rolls, and the occasional replacement of the Captain’s blood pressure tablets.
We know change can be unsettling. Some of you may be thinking:
“£3.50? Outrageous! In my day you could buy a pint, a pie, and a new pair of socks for that.”
“Is this because the Treasurer has taken up an expensive new hobby?”
Rest assured:
The Treasurer has not taken up yachting.
And the extra 50p will help stretch our finances gracefully to the end of the season, rather than collapsing in a heap somewhere around December
Think of it this way: it’s still cheaper than a bucket of range balls, and far less painful than the three‑putt you’ll inevitably have on the 7th.
Thank you for your understanding, your good humour, and your continued support of the Seniors Section — a legendary squad of finely‑tuned sportsmen, world‑class storytellers, and proud holders of more hospital loyalty cards than golfing trophies.
