Horsley Lodge HOME MATCH RESULT Monday 6th July 2026

Beeston Fields vs Horsley Lodge (Home)

Monday 6th July 2026

The BFGC Seniors welcomed Horsley Lodge for the return fixture at Beeston Fields, played in warm, bright conditions and in excellent spirit throughout. The match produced a strong 6–2 victory for Beeston Fields, built on confident home course play, smart use of handicaps, and a captain who somehow managed to function on three hours’ sleep after England’s World Cup match against Mexico kicked off at 2am.

Despite the fatigue, the team delivered a superb performance across the board.

Match 1 – Phil Harrison & Tony Gilbert W 5&3

Seniors Captain Phil Harrison, running on fumes and caffeine, led the team out alongside Tony Gilbert. Phil’s energy levels may have been questionable, but Tony’s were not — he produced a solid, composed display that anchored the pairing to an excellent 5&3 win. A perfect start for Beeston Fields and a testament to Tony’s reliability and Phil’s ability to function under sleep‑deprived conditions.

Match 2 – Matt Lavelle & Dave Bonser L 1 Down

The second match saw the Beeston pair of Matt Lavelle and Dave Bonser edged out by Horsley Lodge 1 Down. Despite good golf and determined play, the visitors handled the early holes better and secured one of their two points on the day. A setback, but not one that dented the team’s confidence.

Match 3 – Anil Patani & Mike Gilbert W 5&3

Anil Patani and Mike Gilbert produced a superb 5&3 victory, using their local knowledge and shot allocation to full effect. Anil’s tidy short game and Mike’s consistency off the tee kept Horsley Lodge under pressure throughout, restoring Beeston’s momentum.

Match 4 – Andy Lowe & Julian Ennis W 6&5

A dominant performance from Andy Lowe and Julian Ennis resulted in a commanding 6&5 win. The pair combined excellent course management with confident putting, overwhelming their opponents and giving Beeston Fields a strong foothold in the overall match.

Match 5 – Eddie Easton & Bob Jones W 5&4

Eddie Easton and Bob Jones delivered another emphatic result, winning 5&4. Eddie’s accuracy and Bob’s steady approach play proved a potent combination, securing Beeston’s fourth point of the day and continuing the home side’s surge.

Match 6 – Tim Hawkins & Bill Hurrell W 5&3

In Match 6, Tim Hawkins and Bill Hurrell produced a confident 5&3 win, managing the course beautifully and keeping Horsley Lodge at arm’s length throughout. Bill’s touch around the greens and Tim’s reliable ball‑striking made this a comfortable and well‑earned victory.

Match 7 – Martin Bottomley & Ray Stevenson L 3&2

Match 7 saw Horsley Lodge claim their second and final point of the day. The Beeston pair of Martin Bottomley & Ray Stevenson fought hard but were unable to overcome the visitors’ strong mid‑round play losimg 3&2 . A rare blemish on an otherwise excellent team performance.

Match 8 – Malcolm Leivers & Rob McWilliam W 3&2

The final match saw Malcolm Leivers and Rob McWilliam secure a composed 3&2 win, closing out the morning in style. Malcolm used his shots wisely, and Rob’s steady rhythm ensured Beeston finished with a flourish and confirmed the overall 6–2 victory.

Final Score: Beeston Fields 6 – 2 Horsley Lodge

A strong home performance, played in great spirit and enjoyed by both teams. The Horsley Lodge Seniors Captain confirmed that they look forward to continuing this fixture in 2027 — a welcome endorsement of a friendly and competitive inter‑club rivalry.

Thanks to all who played and represented Beeston Fields with pride.
