The BFGC Seniors produced another excellent home victory, defeating local neighbours Wollaton Park by 6½–1½. It was a lively, good‑humoured contest played in warm conditions, with Beeston once again proving that knowing every bump, borrow and mischievous slope of the course is worth at least three shots before you even tee off.

Wollaton arrived with two familiar faces — Phil Marriott and Kelvin Dudley — both recent transfers from Beeston Fields. Their insider knowledge helped them navigate the course, but not quite enough to halt the home side’s momentum. After two tight opening wins, Beeston settled into their stride and delivered a series of strong, confident performances to secure a commanding overall victory.

Match 1 – Phil Harrison (Capt) & Dave Bishell — W 1 UP

The Captain led from the front, partnering Dave Bishell in a tense, tactical battle. Despite Wollaton fielding two ex‑Beeston players armed with local knowledge, Phil and Dave held firm. The match went all the way to the 18th, where the Beeston pair kept their nerve to secure a narrow but vital 1 UP win. A gritty start and an important first point.

Match 2 – Matt Lavelle & Martin Bottomley — W 1 UP

Another nail‑biter. Matt and Martin combined well throughout, using their shots wisely and producing steady golf under pressure. Their match also reached the final green, where a calm two‑putt sealed a second consecutive 1 UP victory. Two matches, two tight wins — Beeston off to a flyer.

Match 3 – Andy Lowe & Malcolm Leivers — W 2&1

Andy and Malcolm delivered a composed and controlled performance, securing a 2&1 win. Their opponents battled hard, but Beeston’s consistency proved decisive. Andy’s accuracy and Malcolm’s clever use of his handicap shots kept Wollaton at arm’s length throughout. A strong point in the middle order.

Match 4 – Rob McWilliam & Tim Hawkins — W 5&4

A superb display from Rob and Tim, who recorded a commanding 5&4 win. Rob’s booming drives and Tim’s sharp putting proved a formidable combination. Their opponents were last seen wondering whether the greens had suddenly become smaller. A dominant performance and a very welcome point.

Match 5 – Anil Patani & Lance Rosie — W 8&7

The outstanding performance of the day. Anil and Lance were 6 up at the turn, prompting rumours that Wollaton’s pair asked if they could swap balls, clubs, or possibly personalities. It didn’t help. The Beeston duo marched on to an emphatic 8&7 victory — the sort of scoreline normally seen only in coaching manuals titled How to Win Big. A sensational result and the highlight of the match.

Match 6 – Ray Stevenson & Bob Jones  — L 2 DOWN

Ray Stevenson & Bob Jones faced a strong Wollaton pairing and were narrowly defeated 2 Down Both played well, using their shots wisely, but Wollaton's steadiness on the firm greens proved just enough to edge the match

Match 7 – Mike Gilbert & Eddie Easton — A/S

Mike Gilbert & Eddie Easton fought hard in a close, competitive match that ended all square. Both produced solid golf, and although they couldn’t quite secure the win, their half‑point added to Beeston’s growing tally and kept the momentum firmly on the home side.

Match 8 – Tony Gilbert & Dave Bull — W 2&1

Tony and Dave produced another excellent win, matching the previous scoreline with a confident 2&1 victory. Tony’s crisp iron play and Dave’s reliable short game kept the pressure firmly on Wollaton. A steady, professional performance that rounded off a superb day for the Seniors.

A confident, well‑earned home victory, with strong performances across the board and one truly spectacular result from Anil and Lance. The Seniors Captain looks forward to these high standards being maintained throughout the rest of the season.
