Event held at Beeston Fields Golf Club

Our October Quiz Night took on a distinctly spooky theme, with all 65 questions based around Halloween. The witches, ghosts, pumpkins and things that go bump in the night certainly didn't dampen enthusiasm, as 19 teams took part and well over 100 people packed into the clubhouse for another excellent evening of fun and friendly competition.
There were some impressive scores throughout the field and a closely contested battle for the top prizes. In the end, it was congratulations to 5 Guys Named Sue, who claimed first place with an excellent 60 points, earning the £45 first prize. Their victory also brings with it a 3-point handicap for the November quiz, giving the rest of the field a sporting chance of revenge!
Second place went to Bar 4 with 59 points, while Wollaton Wanderers secured third place on 58 points.
As so often happens, the tie-break question proved crucial in determining several of the placings. The Golden Girls edged out Where's Elizabeth to take fourth place after both teams finished on 57 points. Things were even tighter further down the leaderboard, with three teams tied on 56 points and separated only by their tie-break scores.
Prize Winners
Perhaps the biggest talking point of the evening, however, was an anomaly known only to our Social Secretary Dave Boultby, whereby the 7th-place prize of a free entry to the next quiz (worth £10) was actually of greater value than the £5 awarded for 6th place. There is undoubtedly some logic behind this arrangement, although nobody has managed to discover it yet!

The next Quiz Night will be held on Thursday 19th November, followed by the ever-popular Christmas Quiz on Thursday 10th December. If October's turnout is anything to go by, both evenings promise to be well supported, so make sure your team is ready for another night of laughs, friendly rivalry and the occasional question that everyone thinks they know... until they write down the wrong answer!
