After thunder, lightning, and a mass retreat that would’ve impressed the Roman army, the Seniors finally completed Medal No. 3 at the second attempt. A total of 35 players took part across both divisions, though only half the field managed to finish before the heavens opened again. Still, enough brave souls battled through the weather to produce a proper set of results — and some very tidy scoring.
Drew Armstrong claimed top spot with a composed nett 70, going out in 42 and coming back in 43, collecting 9 pars along the way. It was the sort of steady medal golf that survives rain, wind, thunder, and the occasional startled squirrel.
He finished three shots clear of Mike Gilbert, who posted a nett 73 to take second place. Mike’s round was solid throughout, but Drew’s consistency proved too strong on the day.
Third place went to Steve Schofield with a nett 74, and Phil Harrison secured fourth with a nett 75, winning the countback on the back 6.
Division 1 Prizes:
1st Drew Armstrong – £18
2nd Mike Gilbert – £16
3rd Steve Schofield – £14
4th Phil Harrison – £12
In Division 2, Julian Ennis produced an excellent nett 70, going out in 49 and returning in 51, including 3 pars — enough to secure victory by four shots.
Runner‑up Edward Easton carded a nett 74, a strong round in the conditions, while Andy Hunt took third with 75, and Malcolm Leivers completed the prize list with a nett 78.
Division 2 Prizes:
1st Juian Ennis – £18
2nd Ed Easton – £16
3rd AndyHunt – £14
4th Malcolm Leivers – £12
35 players → £122.50 collected
£120 paid out in prizes
£2.50 remainder (presumably placed in the Treasurer’s emergency biscuit fund)
Only half the field completed the round due to the dramatic weather — thunder, lightning, and a level of rainfall last seen in biblical literature. But the Seniors soldiered on, producing strong scoring and a fully‑completed Medal No. 3 at last.
Congratulations to all prize winners, and commiserations to those who were last seen sprinting toward the clubhouse during the storm.
